CND Vinylux polish - the icing on the cake*

Sugar sweetness

CND the brand behind Shellac™(and it still feels sooo wrong to put normal shoes straight back on after a pedicure) also do a weekly at home polish range - Vinylux™.

The Vinylux range of at home polishes offer long lasting and chip resistant colours for your fingers and toes.
CND Vinylux weekly polish pink and yellow
A simple two step system which not only gives you great chip resistant colour but also nail care. Infused with keratin, jojoba oil and vitamin E, to help keep your nails flexible and hydrated.

Perfectly on trend and in time for spring, CND have four new sugar pastel colours in their range.

CND Vinylux spring 2018 range

  • Candied - a sugar pink
  • Jellied - a yellow cream
  • Taffy - light pastel duck egg blue
  • Gummi - a solid pastel lilac cream

I've been having a play with Candied (pink) and Jellied (Yellow)

The process

CND Vinylux weekly colour and top coat

As with any manicure make sure your nails are perfectly polish free, clean and dry.  You don't need and should not apply any kind of base coat.

Step 1 - Colour
Give the bottle a really good shake and off you go.  Apply the colour, and a thin coat.  The colour went on really easily - the brush is a nice fat little chap and due to its ergonomic design really hugged my nails.

One coat already looked good but even better with the (recommended) second coat.

I waited about 5 mins between coats and then about 2 minutes before...

Step 2 - Top Coat
This goes on looking like clear nail varnish but is your top coat and sealer to lock in the polish.

After about 10 minutes I felt the varnish was dry enough to move!  And it must have been as I noticed the next day there were zero smudges etc which is a bit of a first for me.

Below is a picture of Candied on my nails the morning after - so technically Day 2 (which was a Monday in case you need to know).
CND Vinylux weekly colour and top coat Candied Pink

Hardworking hands

Like you my hands are pretty much on the move all the time - housework, typing, gardening (it is spring), dog stroking, cooking etc.

I do try and take care of may nails and manicure of course (i.e. no nail biting, picking cuticles etc) but once my colour is applied I like to be able to forget about it.
CND Vinylux Candied pink and Jellied yellow polish, Old English Company make up bag
I kept my nails pink until Friday so 6 days but can confirm they were still looking good.  Out of the two colours I was drawn to the pink, but it is my favourite colour so I had no choice!

I applied it to my toes as well and 2 weeks on - no chips.

I think the pink shade really suits my pale colouring, and the yellow will look great in the summer when I have a bit of colour (fake tan of course).

You can find the Vinylux range (more colours and top coat, £10.95) at www.cultbeauty or from a pro salon via www.lovecnd.com

Old English Company be beautiful*πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

Made in Britiain

The world is a truly wonderful place and we're all used to getting what we want from the around the world.  Be it pineapples from Costa Rica πŸ‡¨πŸ‡·, cuteness from Korea (and skincare) or the finest champagne 🍾 from well France (otherwise it's just sparkling wine!)

However I am a British and I do like it when I come across a brand that is home made, and in the case of the Old English Company the clue is in the name - Made in Britain.

Stationery and more

Old English are a stationery and homeware company creating rather lovely hand lettered products.  Formed in London they are now based in Stamford, Lincolnshire.

From cards, to coasters, to key-rings and mugs, they make such lovely things.  Gifts for You, for Him, for Her and You again. πŸ˜‰

My recent finds

Old English have a range of fab make up bags/pouches £12.95 (equally good as pen cases, nail care packs etc).  Which as a Beauty Blogger of course appealed to me.

Made from 100% cotton and with wording on both sides they are a really useful size 22 x 16 cm

I don't know about you but I have duplicate make up bags stocked with the exactly the same essentials (mirror, hand cream lip liner etc) to save me swapping contents when I change bags.

These bags from Old English are perfect.  Room for all my essentials plus I love the big bold quotes which I tend to agree with (most of the time !!)

I have recently had a make up bag spring clean (quite liberating) and have chucked out my old grubby make up bags.

They have happily been replaced with these two smart black ones ones 'You Beauty' & 'Hot Mess' - there are more to choose from HERE

Old English Company Made in Britain make up bags
Any make up bag worth it's salt has to include a mirror and Old English have six to choose from all priced at £4.00.  My favourites are Be You and You look Scrumptious.

These mirrors are compact cuteness, 55mm across so can easily fit in your pocket on the days that you are travelling light.

Reach for the Stars

Old English Company Made in Britain Reach for the stars coaster
This quote means a lot to me, and to have it on a coaster on my desk with my favourite mug makes me smile:

a) My favourite colours are pink and black
b) I agree with and the words, to me it means keep on trying and doing what you love
c) It makes me start singing S Club! and there ain't no party like an S Club party ! πŸŽ‰

Old English have a huge range of coasters & placemats to choose from,  you and your favourite mug should have a browse HERE.☕️

Dafna's moisturiser Plus Plus Plus*

About Dafna's

There is a real person behind Dafna's skincare - and that's Dafna who created her anti-ageing line based on the Ayurvedic philosophy.  Her products are not only designed to be good for your skin but also for your general wellbeing.

Luckily for us Dafna hasn't kept her Personal Skincare range to herself and I have recently been introduced to her Beyond Skin Deep Moisture +

Dafna's Beyond Skin Deep Moisture +
(emphasis on the plus)

We all want our skin care to perform but when it's also a pleasure to use that's a skin care win/win ! πŸ‘
Dafna's Moisture Plus

In a smart black jar (to protect the precious contents against UV rays) Moisture Plus includes 19 carefully selected ingredients.

A biggie in the jar for me is Hyaluronic Acid (HA) which is a super hydrater and helps with collagen production.  Dafna's HA is a bit special though as it is 'low molecular' so it gets in deeper to your skin which helps even more with skin plumping.

This award winning moisturiser also includes Neroli essential oil (one of my favourite smells) plus lots of other natural and organic ingredients such as Aloe, Bamboo, Argan and Rosemary oils.
Dafna's Moisture Plus

Look, feel & smell

You really do need to inhale this skincare as it smells D-I-V-I-N-E, and it is meant too.  Part of the ritual that Dafna's suggest to applying Moisture Plus is to breathe it in.

Dafna's products are of course made to perform but they are also made to be enjoyed and to make you feel great.

There is a video on the ritual of applying Moisture Plus on the Dafna's website.  Although whether you decide to do it their way or your way, it is a pleasure to use.

This first time I smelt it, it took me back to the first time I ever tried Decleor Armoessence Neroli which I fell in love with about 25 years ago.  This smell of Moisture Plus had a similar impact, wonderful.

Along with my senses my skin loves it too, and it's silky texture is easily absorbed into my (on the dry side) skin.
Dafna's Moisture Plus
Dafna's Moisture Plus

This is how I apply my Moisture Plus

I take a small amount (it is rich so you don't need much) and smooth it across my palms.
Next I cup my face and do some deep breathing to inhale that lovely scent.
Then I press  it into my skin - neck, forehead cheeks
And finally with fingers tips I gently massage it in.

I must admit, because I love using it so much I often repeat the process again (or just give the jar a good sniff!!)

It's also really nice to use on my hands if I feel like a really good pamper.

Perfect to use AM or PM, due to the relaxing and Ahh.. feeling it gives,  I am choosing to use this at night as I have more time to enjoy using it then and it sets me up for sweet dreams. πŸ’€

Dafna's Skincare

Moisture Plus is also available in a Lighter Lotion.

Other products included in the range (not tried by me... yet) are:

  • Recovery Cleanser - a balm to milk cleanser
  • Nutrition - a specific night cream all about repair
  • Eye cream
  • Face Serum
  • Revival - a face mask with bio-active ingredients and Hyaluronic Acid

You can shop the full range and find out more about Dafna's skin philosophy at www.dafnaskincare.com

PS. Naturally, Dafna's are against any sort of animal testing, products are free from skin nasties and all products are 'made in Spain with love and devotion'.

"Gracias Dafna's".

Invisalign - Update #5

3 months to Go

(My fifth Invisalign update for you - if you would like to read previous posts please click HERE)

I have just put Tray 31 in, and that's Tray 31 of 43, so I have 12 trays left!
Invisalign packet with notes and a 2018 moomin calendar

When I committed to Invisalign, I started off with 43 trays and instructions to change trays every 2 weeks.  That equated to 86 weeks, which is 19 months, a year and a half, whichever way you say it it is a fair amount of time...

Luckily for me things changed and I was allowed to speed things up and go for a weekly tray change, which means here I am with just 3 months left :)

Whilst I am getting excited that the end is coming, it has, so far, been a breeze.  If I was still looking at a 2019 finish it wouldn't be all doom and gloom.

This is how I do it

Some trays have been harder to put in than others, but I haven't yet had one I haven't been able to fit.

The general advice is to put new trays in last thing at night which I used to do.  However as my night time routine is pretty lengthy, I now put my new tray in after dinner.

It can sometimes take a while to get a new tray in, plus once fitted you need to use a chewie to really get it into place.  If I am being rushed (i.e. "Turn off the light Emily"), I find it harder to do.
a chewie and moomin tray

Fortunately getting trays in after the first time has never been a problem.

I use my thumb and index finger on my left hand to get trays in and out (I'm right handed).  My nails have suffered a bit, my orthodontist did give me an aligner tool, but I just couldn't get on with it.

Notes to self

Invisalign packet with notes and a 2018 moomin calendar
Each and every tray comes in a numbered packet, and there is a notes box on the packet that is begging to be written in.

My trays came in 4 boxes and at the end of each box I write myself little notes on each of the new packets as I line them up ready to go in!

The notes can be anything from a reminder, a countdown or a motivational quote from me to me...

Previous notes I have written have been:

  • Are you back at the Gym?
  • You're in Spain!
  • Buy some SPF 50
  • What's your weight?
  • Did you remember to fix the skirting?

They can be and often are a bit random, I often think 'what were you thinking about ?', but it makes Monday change over day a bit more fun and not just another week nearer my goal.

The Answers

  • Are you back at the Gym? - Yes :)
  • You're in Spain! - Majorca to be precise and it was lovely, thank you 😎
  • Buy some SPF 50 - Still using up old stock, but when I do it will be Heliocare 360 or Skin Tech Melablock
  • What's your weight? - Stable!
  • Did you remember to fix the skirting? - Skirting Board in the downstairs loo - Yes of course, no one else was going to do it!

Say 'Aloe to Great skin - Forever *

Who are Forever?

Founded in 1978 Forever are best known for their Aloe Vera Gel drink, known for it's health giving properties and containing 96% pure Aloe Vera.

Forever are the largest manufacturer and distributor of Aloe Vera, so they know their product and have diversified in the last 40 years into quite a few areas which include nutritional and weight management products and now skincare, under the name Infinite.

Infinite Skincare

Infinite by Forever

My local Forever representative Claire kindly sent me a set of Infinite products to try.

Now, I'm always happy to try and review products, but what made me even more super excited than usual were words, like 'Hydrating' , 'Firming', 'Vitamin C' and... 'Collagen' πŸ˜€πŸ‘

True to it's origins each skincare product in the  Infinite range contains Aloe Vera (Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice to be very precise) as it's first ingredient.  More often than not it will be Aqua (water).

I have come across Aloe Vera once before in Maui hair products, which made my hair super soft, hydrated and manageable so I had high hopes for Infinite before I had even dispensed, applied or smoothed a drop...

Infinite Advanced Skincare Care System

Infinite by Forever
The system is a combination of 4 products that you can purchase as a set, or as singles - which is useful as who finishes all their products at the same time?

Hydrating Cleanser

Infinite by Forever Hydrating Cleanser
Smart purple and silver packaging which at first it annoyed me a bit!?   You see the top (silver part which I will also confusingly call the bottom) doesn't come off, you twist the top and squeeze the tube and the cleanser comes out.

This does cause a bit of a messy bottom - to get over this (worse problems to have!) you just need to get all the product residue off the bottom (or do I mean top!) before you put in on the shelf (or you could just lie it on its side πŸ˜†)

The cleanser itself is really good.  It is a creamy consistency containing as expected Aloe Vera but also other hydrating ingredients such as cocoa, sunflower oil and Vitamin E.

To use you just add water,  it doesn't produce much foam but turns into a milky (fragrance free) face wash.

Now I have got past my issue with the packaging (!) I'm really enjoying using this.

My skin feels clean and soft after use, which is what you want from a face wash, plus it hasn't reacted (i.e. no spots or day patches).

Firming Serum

This is my Step 2.

In case you don't already know, apply serum before moisturiser on your face and neck...

I've always known that the skin on your neck can give away your age, but I admit over the years I have been a bit hit and miss with applying products here - and it is starting to show πŸ˜”

I wish I could turn back time but at least I can try and slow things down.  If you don't already apply products to your neck - start NOW!

Like any product applied to your neck you are trying to defy gravity - long upward strokes are what's required.

A good serum for your face (and neck), not too runny, easily absorbed.

Restoring Creme

Step 3 is moisturiser (no SPF).  Once again Forever have come up with some pretty unique packaging.

To me the packaging for this moisturiser looks more like a jar or a bottle of tablets.  You dispense the product by pressing down on the lid.

I have now discovered there is a logic to the packaging... give the top a full press and  you get the correct amount to use.
Infinite by Forever

This moisturiser has some great anti ageing ingredients (over 15).

It contains acai, pomegranate and vitamin B3 which Forever say helps even out skin tone.

I've been a bit spotty recently and have a few red marks on my face, which I think they have started to fade a bit quicker than usual, plus my skin tone is looking more even.

Fragrance free my skin loves this and it drinks it in, it doesn't sit on the skin and therefore makes a great base for foundation.

Firming Complex

Infinite by Forever Firming Complex
Step 4.  I think it is a pretty safe bet to say that most of us have a daily skincare routine which is at least Two Step - Cleanser + Moisturiser.

You may also apply a serum, and hopefully a daily SPF, but - "Do you take a collagen supplement?"

If you are a regular reader of this blog you will no doubt be aware that I will do almost anything (!) to get more collagen into me.

Collagen is what keeps skin looking good, soft but also firm.  We also need it for our joints and ligaments but it does gradually decline as we get older - and by older I mean from your 20's,  so few of us are immune.

Forever Firming Complex tablets not only containing collagen (🐟) but also Vitamin C.  Vitamin C helps support your body to produce more collagen so it is the perfect partner.

The tablets also include biotin which is great for hair.

Easy to take, 2 tablets a day, gluten free.

I'm convinced that taking a collagen supplement makes my skin feel and look better, and of course that is ALL of my skin.

A new discovery

Forever Catalogue
I hadn't heard of Infinite by Forever before.  Discovering a new brand is always very exciting and especially when they are appealing to my skin care concerns - i.e. getting older.

All of the products I've tried are excellent - My Favourite?  It's between the Restoring Creme and the Firming Complex (tablets).

The Advanced Skin Care set is a great way to discover the whole range, it contains full size products (which you can purchase separately):
  • Hydrating Cleanser 118ml
  • Firming Serum 30ml
  • Restoring Creme 48g
  • Firming Complex 60 tablets
