Is your Body Fit?

Clarins body fit travel pack
I know, the idea is you get beach body ready and then you go on holiday?  Well I just have to be different! I went on holiday and decided that next time I would be ready...  which lead me to purchase...

Clarins Body Fit - Anti Cellulite Conturing Expert

I had read about this new product from Clarins prior to going away, so I made the effort to seek it out on my return to the UK at the airport.  There was an offer on and I was able to pick up this Travel Exclusive which is 2 full size bottles (2 x 200ml).

The packaging is red and white and has a real 80's look to it - but there is nothing retro about this Anti-Cellulite Cream - it is all new for 2017.
Clarins Body Fit

Thigh High hopes

I have always tried to combat cellulite (keep it at bay) and been loyal to products by Elancyl. Unfortunately Elancyl is not that easy to buy in the UK, so I usually purchase it whilst on holiday or online.

Normally this isn't a problem as I love a a foreign pharmacy, plus in Spain & France it (Elancyl) is easy to get, even in the supermarket!

This was not to be the case in Italy ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น where my holiday souvenir shopping for Elancyl drew a blank.

In with the new - Clarins Body Fit

Clarins have formulated this body cream with 8 plant extracts.  Called Body Fit it is subtitled as an 'Anti-Cellulite Contouring Expert visibly,  smoothes, firms, lifts'.

It's a cream/gel, a pale salmon colour and it smells very nice - a bit fruity, a bit minty.
Clarins Body Fit Cream

I have been applying this everyday either first thing in the morning, and/or after my shower and can get dressed pretty much straight away afterwards as it is easily absorbed and there is no stickiness after application.

There is all the usual (and very comprehensive) product information on the box, carton and bottle, plus an additional leaflet inside called  'Self Massage Body Conturing Method', which explains how you should apply Body Fit for best results.

I have read the leaflet (and would encourage you to too) but to be honest I haven't followed the instructions on how to apply it!!
Clarins Body Fit and application leaflet

The instructions advise you to do various application methods on the floor and follow these up with a couple of exercises.  In my bathroom there is simply no space for me to lie down, plus in the morning I just don't have the time.

I'm sure its all good advice but I apply the cream like this:
  • Put a generous amount into the palm of my hand and apply it to the back of each leg and inner thigh and massage it up and down about 10 times.
  • Follow up with cream on each buttock ๐Ÿ˜Š (up and down motion)
  • Any left overs go on my arms and tummy.

Clarins claim -  my legs should "feel and look lighter... redness and blotchiness should disappear demonstrating that the toxins have been eliminated..."

I have had a look at the back of my thighs immediately after application and they do look a more even skin tone, and they are definitely feeling smoother and less bumpy.  Plus they feel more hydrated.

Overal I am enjoying using Body Fit and am liking what I see, plus with two bottles worth in my Travel Pack I will be using it well into Autumn.

However I will still use Elancyl too,  I can't imagine having a shower and not using my glove and Elancyl massage gel.

But for a day cream Clarins Body Fit is making me feel better about my thighs - and that is a major result.  So it's 'Good Bye' Elancyl Cellu Slim and 'Hello' Body Fit as this new kid on the block is a keeper.
Clarins Body Fit

To conclude

I guess the moral of this post is don't get too set in your ways and be open to try something new!

Please leave me a comment below on any new product you have recently discovered - I may need to try it too!

Thank you and ๐Ÿ’‹๐Ÿ’‹

Ah... Skincare* - living la dolce vita

La dolce vita

AH Skincare Caffeine night cream, Elderberry moisturiser, Pro age eye area, pro age night serum

A couple of rather lovely things happened to me recently at the same time.
1. My holiday to Sorrento, Italy ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น came round faster than expected.
2. Andrea Hutchins the founder of Ah...Skincare sent me four products to try, which came in a handy travel case ✈️
AH Skincare Caffeine night cream, Elderberry moisturiser, Prp age eye area, pro age night serum

Some things are just meant to go together, so could there be a better time to try a new handmade organic skincare range than on a relaxing holiday to the beautiful Almalfi coast? I think not!!

About Ah...Skincare

Andrea started Ah...Skincare in 2014 and is committed to producing skincare products that are natural, organic and good for you and the environment.

Her ingredients are hand picked, free from parabens, sulphates etc and are never tested on animals ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฐ

Elderberry Moisturiser

Ah Skincare Elderberry moisturiser

This is a lovely silky day cream/moisturiser with a mineral SPF of 25.  This everyday moisturiser is not only aimed at protecting your skin against sun damage and ageing, but it's gentle and soothing to your skin at the same time.

The pump dispenser is easy to use and also means no fingers in jars thus ensuring the product remains pure.

As well as a great moisturiser I also found this to be an excellent base for my make up as it easily absorbed into my skin.  Not highly perfumed, as that would mean adding something just to make it smell nice, it does have a very slight fragrance that I would describe as natural and pure.

A little goes a long way - a couple of pumps is enough for my face and neck.

Ah Skincare Elderberry moisturiser

I have pretty robust skin in terms of sensitivity however occasionally it does react and still (at nearly 50!) get the odd spot, but it didn't react to Elderberry Moisturiser at all.  Elderberry is a natural detoxifying agent which would help combat any breakouts, so you know that this is going to be gentle on your skin.

Ah...Skincare give you a full ingredients list,  I'm glad to see that it also includes a couple of my favourite skincare ingredients in terms of anti ageing - Vitamin C and the super hydrater Hyaluronic Acid ๐Ÿ’ฆ

Pro age eye cream
Ah Skincare Pro age eye cream

I knew I was going to love this eye cream before I even used it! Why? Its got sun protection SPF25 already added.

SPF isn't that common in an eye cream, but as the skin around the eyes is more delicate (thinner) it is an area of the skin that can show the first signs of ageing, so you need to protect your skin here early from those pesky rays ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Ah...Skincare class their Pro Age Eye Cream as a treatment, as along with the sun protection it is also charged with ingredients to combat lines and dark circles.

Ah Skincare Pro age eye cream

I have been applying this twice a day, (don't worry as the SPF is mineral it is fine to use at bedtime). Packaged in an airless pump you only need a little to tap along under the eye area.

I struggle sometimes with eye cream during the day as I find some products too greasy and they sit on my skin which means my mascara smudges.  Panda ๐Ÿผ eyes when you are trying to combat dark shadows is NOT a good look, but I am happy to report there was no problem with this one.

Pro age night renew serum

Ah Skincare Night serum

Pro Age Night Serum is about repair and renewal and contains one of my skin care heroes collagen (marine based ๐ŸŸ).  Collagen in skincare is something I always look out for as you need it to keep your skin hydrated and firm.

Other anti ageing ingredients include melon extract, rosehip oil, green tea, passion fruit, blueberry, plum and seaweed extracts plus arnica oil.

I really love the subtle fragrance of this serum, so relaxing and soothing to apply at the end of the day.  In fact the more I use it the more addictive I find the fragrance, it reminds of walking into a luxury spa for a good pampering session... bliss.

This lightweight serum feels cool and refreshing when you apply it to your face.  You only need a small amount, I found 4 drops enough.  Apply your serum before your night cream and wake up happy.

Caffeine night cream

Ah Skincare Caffeine night cream

This night cream is part of the anti ageing range, a luxury range of products that combat the main signs of ageing.  I've never tried a face skincare product with caffeine in it before however it makes sense as caffeine boosts circulation and blood flow (which is why it is often found in cellulite products).

Along with powerful Vitamin C and Hyaluronic Acid Ah...Skincare have packed some other powerful ingredients into their Caffeine Night Cream, such as creatine which is another product that occurs naturally in skin but declines with age... ๐Ÿ˜’

Ah Skincare Caffeine Night Cream

Again another lovely texture of product, a pure white cream with a subtle but yummy fragrance which is not surprising as it contains coffee extract and coffee butter.

I have been applying this after the Pro Age Night Serum, all over my face and neck - using upward strokes (gravity I defy you!)

It's branded as a night cream but if your skin needs a bit of extra tlc, maybe stressed or extra dry you could easily use this for daytime too.

Beyond the holiday
4 Ah Skincare products

These 4 super stars were great to use on holiday but are still going strong.

Now I'm back to more of my 'normal' beauty routine I am continuing to enjoy all of the products.

For the day time the Elderberry Moisturiser is the perfect base for make up,  plus it has the SPF.

I'm still using the eye cream every day reassured to know that the SPF25 is there to protect me.  The weather in the UK is not a patch on the glorious sunshine in Italy but it is good to know I am protected and should the sunshine make an appearance -  it won't catch me out!

And then at the end of the day  I always find solace in my night time routine.  I enjoy the ritual of applying my products and Pro Age Serum with that gorgeous smell followed by the Caffeine Night Cream to finish off the day perfectly and I am ready for sleeps ๐Ÿ’ค

Ah...Skincare, it's aptly named...

Mineral Sun Care by Tropic Skin Care*

Hello Summer ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Tropic Skin Care Tinted Skin Shade
I say Hello Summer, when in fact I mean Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn as I wear my SPF each and every day, and would urge you to do the same...

I think we all know that UV damage can prematurely age your skin ... but an SPF shouldn't just be for your holidays but be an everyday occurrence.  My foundation does contain an SPF of 15 but I like to use SPF 50 on my face whatever the weather, so am loving the fact that Tropic Skincare have put this value in their Tinted Skin Shade which is a tinted facial sun (and water resistant) cream.
Tropic Skin Care Tinted Skin Shade
The shade I've been using is Light/Medium (also available in Medium/Dark).  I have a typical pale English skin and found this shade to be perfect for me, and it blends beautifully.
Tropic Skin Care Tinted Skin Shade on hand
Tropic Skin Care Tinted Skin Shade blended into the hand
Its easy to use, I didn't find I needed that much, it glides over the skin beautifully and blends in very well.  I had a sniff but it didn't smell of anything to me, however I'm glad to say definitely no horrible fake tan type of smell.  Tropic don't put anything in their products that is artificial and they aren't the type of company to add something just to make it smell a certain way which is always good to know.

The coverage of this tint is so good that I can actually do the unheard of and go without foundation!  I have to admit though I can't forgo concealer and whilst this tint doesn't make you look shiny I like a slightly matt base so topped it off with my mineral powder SPF 30 Brush on Block, which I dust on all over my face even my eyelids.

Tropic also do an SPF 50 Sun Balm which comes in a pot so good for keeping in your pocket or handbag for protection on the go.  Be useful to use on those places that might get missed or need a more regular top up - i.e. toes in flip flops, the tops of your ears or that bit of your forehead that just seems to always catch the sun!

Mineral or Chemical Sunscreen?

Tropic Skin Care Tinted Skin Shade
Minerals are natural and more skin friendly, plus they do the job just as well as chemicals so for me it is an easy choice - minerals all the way.

The main difference between mineral and chemical sunscreens are mineral ones work by providing a shield via zinc and titanium oxides whereas the chemical ones are absorbed into the skin, plus there is some general debate that some chemical sunscreens are bad for the environment ๐ŸŒ.

More than just sun protection
Tropic Skin Care Tinted Skin Shade

When choosing an SPF you need to ensure that it is going to protect you against both types of UV rays. Tropic Skincare Tinted Skin Shade contains broad spectrum UVA (the ageing one) and UVB (the burning one) so it ticks both boxes.

I want to protect my face from the sun and personally I never wear SPF to get a tan.  I am all about avoiding the ageing effects, and if I come back from a holiday the same colour as I left I actually see that as a bit of a result!!

However you feel about a tan, no one wants to burn ๐Ÿ˜ก, but if you are going to go to the trouble of applying an SPF why not use one that is actually going to do your skin some good too?

Zinc oxide for example not only provides mineral SPF protection but also synthesises (makes) new skin tissue and... collagen ๐Ÿ˜€.  It also helps regulate oil production, so is good to help avoid breakouts and shiny skin.

Tropic Skincare have also added some other skin-benefiting goodies such as passion flower oil known for its  hydrating benefits.  Plus wild hibiscus flower extract which is also known as the 'botox plant'!  Said to inhibit the breakdown of the elastin in your skin, zap free radicals and thereby promote younger looking skin - thumbs up to all of that.

I've really enjoyed using this Tinted Skin Shade from Tropic Skincare, loving the fact that it is SPF 50 plus it's good for my skin and doesn't make me look orange!  This 50ml tube is easily going to see me through the summer, but I'll carry on using it into Autumn and beyond,  as even if you don't see it the sun it can see you! (unless it's night of course!)

Collagen challenge - Month 3

Month 3 of my collagen drink challenge

Boots Liquid Collagen
Month 1 was Skinade, Month was 2 Beautycoll and Month 3 is... tah-da Collagen Liquid from Boots the chemist.

Last month I was drinking my collagen at 11am to replace my mid-morning coffee as I had read you should avoid taking a collagen drink close to a caffeine injection.  Now I have read that the best time to take collagen is at the end of the day - the theory being your body repairs itself as you sleep so the 11am drink has shifted to about 11pm.

Boots Collagen Drink - how does it compare?

I purchased these on a 3 for 2 deal plus they were on offer at £24.99, the regular price for 1 box (10 days supply) is £29.99.  Boots often have a 3 for 2 offer on vitamins etc and these drinks would usually be included, so worth keeping an eye out.  I also have a Boots Advantage card so earned 232 Advantage  points as well - all good ๐Ÿ‘
Boots Liquid Collagen
As these collagen drinks are from Boots the Chemist it means in the UK they are very easy to purchase off the shelf so no waiting for the post.  Don't get me wrong, I love internet shopping and getting a parcel is always exciting but sometimes you just want it now, and it's satisfying  to walk into a a shop and actually buy something!

Boots Collagen Liquid drinks are pre mixed and each bottle contains 50ml and is about 10cm high, you don't need to keep them in the fridge and they unscrew easily.  You take one a day it's super easy - give the bottle a shake, open, drink and your done - your daily beauty shot of collagen is in the bag!!
Boots Liquid Collagen
You would normally just drink it straight from the bottle but I did pour some out into a glass so you could see the colour - it doesn't look very nice, but don't worry it tastes fine, maybe a bit too sweet but nice, a fruity sort of taste.
Boots Liquid Collagen
Boots Liquid Collagen

Not all collagen drinks are created equal

Like all collagen drinks these are a food supplement so the nutritional information has to be displayed and I always check the label before buying collagen to check the collagen is marine (from fish ๐ŸŸ) which these drinks from Boots are ๐Ÿ‘

Looking at the label there is zero sugar,  flavourings are yoghurt, lemon and peach plus sweeteners.  Each bottle contains 22 calories, compared to 35 for Skinade and 62 for Beautycoll.

What's next?

Month 4 is on it's way so I shall be trying and reviewing another collagen drink soon - not sure which drink that will be yet - suggestion welcome via a comment below! ๐Ÿ˜€
