H.A. Intensifier - Purple Reign!

Multi-Functional Serum
SkinCeuticals HA ntensifier

This serum from SkinCeauticals is part of their 'correct' range and claims to "amplify skin's hyaluronic acid levels".

Why bother with hyaluronic acid?

You already have hyaluronic acid in your skin, we all produce it and it helps to keep your skin hydrated and also supports the collagen in your skin, so is a good product to think about adding into your routine if you are looking at an anti ageing skincare regime.  It is also interesting to know that a lot of dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid.

If you are starting to see the signs of ageing in your skin, or your skin has lost it's glow adding a product which contains hyaluronic acid might be a wise investment.

New to the market in 2017 this serum which SkinCeauticals call H.A. Intensifier is something I pondered about buying as at about £80 it is quite an investment.  However I was really keen in adding hyaluronic acid into my routine and personally don't like the thought of going along the filler route so compared to that it seemed a bargain (there's a logic in there somewhere!).

You do get quite a lot of product for your money, 30ml and the packaging is very nice.  I like the texture of the serum, (the colour is purple!) its not too runny which is important as I would hate to loose any (it doesn't run off the back of my hand) plus the fit of the stopper into the bottle is nice and tight so you don't lose any there either.  I haven't knocked the bottle over yet, and don't intend to but I think the tight top might be a blessing if I did.
H A Intensifier

Serum should be applied first before your other products - I read once that you should apply products in texture order - thinnest first which is a good way to remember.

I have been using this serum every morning and evening as directed. You only need a little, I dispense only four drops.  One drop goes on my forehead, one on each cheek and then one on my chin, I then sweep it across my face making sure I get some along my jaw line and neck too.

If you go along to the SkinCeauticals website you can of course find all the information you need to know re ingredients etc.  and if you are unsure how to apply it there is a video here.

I have been using H.A. Intensifier for about 4 weeks now - and I have about 1/2 a bottle left so you could say I am mid way through my treatment.  It is a really lovely product and a pleasure to use.  I can't say I have seen any dramatic results, however I do think that the skin under my eyes looks better, less dark shadows which can be a sign of dehydration and overall my skin does feel a bit softer and smoother.

Initially I had a few tiny red spots, I must stress they were really, really tiny the size of a pin prick and they only lasted a few days,  however I do think the H.A. Intensifier caused them.  At first I was just applying the serum in one place (rather than using the 4 drops method to get an even spread), I think I was simply applying too much product and overloading my skin, hence the little breakouts.

Hyaluronic Acid

I have enjoyed seeing the hydrating benefits of adding hyaluronic acid to my routine and think it is something I need to continue with.  This serum by SkinCeuticals is great however there are other products out there which I think I need to investigate too i.e. :

  • The Ordinary  'Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5'
  • Niod 'Multi-Molecular Hyaluronic Complex'
  • Medik8 'Hydr8 B5 - Skin Rehyrdation Serum'

If you have tried any of the above please let me know.  For now I still have 1/2 a bottle of H.A. Intensifier to go so the Purple Reign continues... ๐ŸŽธ

Beautycoll - collagen drink

On a mission

This is my second review of a collagen drink and it's not going to be my last, as I am now on a bit of a mission to try as many of these as possible - and of course write a review to feedback to you all.

Why collagen?

Collagen - it's causing a bit of a buzz in the beauty world - both via topical products and products that promote beauty from within.

In case you don't know already we need collagen to keep our skin soft, plump and springy and keep the (inevitable) lines at bay.  We all have collagen in us, but it does decline with age starting in your 20's!  Sun, smoking and processed foods all attack it.  So try to avoid the obvious, drink lots of water and make sure you eat well.  Sounds easy! and then real life comes along, which of course includes having fun, going out, playing in the sunshine, etc.  I'm glad I've done all of these things and I intend to keep doing them for as long as I can... However I do know (and notice) that as I've got older my skin is ageing but I would like to try and delay things for as long as possible and age well.  My collagen levels are dropping and it has started to show - but could collagen drinks be the answer?

I purchased a 28 day supply from Face the Future, at the time there was a 10% offer on, the cost was about £44 which works out at approx. £1.46 per day.

The collagen within Beautycoll is fish based (I would never want to buy bovine as I still worry about mad cows! ๐Ÿฎ)

Beautycoll comes in a box - containing 28 sachets.  The box has a lot of information on it and
Beautycoll have a very informative website.
Beautycoll collagen drinks back of box information

Along with collagen Beautycoll also includes:
  • Vitamin C, which is known to contribute to collagen formation
  • Biotin which is also good for your hair (one of the ingredients in the hair supplement Visical)
  • Hyaluronic Acid which helps keep the moisture in your skin
Each sachet/drink has 62 calories and zero fat, also good to know NO added sugars ๐Ÿ‘

The taste is very pleasant if like me you like the taste of berries - Beautycoll market it as mixed berry flavour - the berries on the box look like raspberries to me, I thought it tasted like Strawberry Angel Delight ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿง - very pleasant.  I mixed mine with regular tap water but you could be fancy and add bottled water or ice.

Each daily drink comes in a single serving packet and is in powder form.  You need to mix the powder first with a little water, into a paste and then top it up.  So really very easy, a advantage to the drinks not being pre mixed is they are very portable and of course you don't need to worry about them leaking.  These were super easy to travel to work with me. I read somewhere that you should avoid drinking these within a hour of caffeine, so rather than have one at breakfast - when coffee is king!☕️ I replaced my 11am coffee with a collagen drink.

As I said earlier, last month was Month 1 of my collagen mission and I started off  taking Skinade.  So this is effectively my Month 2.

I am hooked!  My skin continues to look and feel better.  I'm getting close to  50 so am definitely noticing the signs of ageing in my skin, but also in myself - i.e. aches and pains etc.

My skin is continuing to look and feel better - it is so much softer than before and that's all over - for example soft elbows, even the skin between my fingers and toes feels better!

I am definitely using a lot less foundation, plus my skin seems less thirsty so my base is staying put.

Month 3 and beyond

I have just finished my Beautycoll course and now reveal that the collagen drink for Month 3 is... ta-dah! Boots 'Beauty from Within' Collagen Liquid so expect a full review here on the blog in the next 30 days or so.

If YOU!  have tried collagen drinks or have a suggestion for my Month 4 please do let me know.

However for now  ๐Ÿ’‹

Eye Cream - all rounder required

My eye cream wishes

  1. Get rid of the lines
  2. Get rid of dark circles
  3. To make me look awake
  4. Not be too greasy (so I can wear AM and PM)
  5. Light reflecting
  6. SPF
Whilst I was typing the above list I realised of course that I was naturally typing them in order of 'wants'.  This might also be the reason why I have drawerfuls of eye creams, I buy them they fail to deliver so they get chucked in the drawer (which is less painful than throwing them out, by the time I get round to that I will have hopefully forgotten how much it cost).  So, always room for one more!  Which lead me to purchase mesoestetic collagen 360ยบ eye cream during a recent shopping spree at Face the Future.
mesoestetic 360 eye cream

I hadn't heard of mesoestetic before, the hook for me was the collagen angle and that this eye cream says it helps to stimulate the production of collagen, plus the reviews sounded good.  You can read more about mesoestetic on their website.

The packaging is good and I like the space age silver container you get 15ml in a pump dispenser.  You don't need to use very much, it isn't a greasy texture but I do have quite a greasy eye area, so for me a full pumps worth was too much.  Depressing the pump half way gives me half the amount which is perfect.  I dot it around the eye area and then pat it gently in - any left goes along my top lip line.  I often apply eye cream to my top lip line as the skin here is quite thin and I am starting to get some vertical lip lines - which are a part of getting older I know and maybe too much puckering up in my youth!๐Ÿ˜

mesoestetic 360 eye cream

Why chooses an eye cream with collagen?

Collagen - we all have it but it reduces in your skin from 20! yep that's right, however you are unlikely to notice any difference in your skin until you get past your mid 30's so don't spend your youth fretting about it.  Try not to smoke, eat well (avoid too much sugar and processed food) and use an SPF.  I take my own advice (now) and as you may know am on a bit of a mission to get more collagen into my body (eating/drinking it) and skin (skincare).

Reduction in collagen in the skin results in skin that is less firm, and less springy, which in turn means it is thinner and along with sagging fine lines become permanent and deeper, turning into wrinkles.

Mesoestetic collagen 360ยบ

I have been using this for about 2 weeks now and am impressed to a degree.  I haven't noticed any difference to my dark circles and it has no SPF, however my eye area does look smoother and the fine lines I feel are less visible on my resting face.  Of course when I smile they are still there but this is the mechanics of my face so unavoidable.

I am going to carry on using it, and not chuck it in the eye cream graveyard with the rest - which is good news for me and my pocket.

I may well investigate the mesoestetic range as there are other products in the collagen 360ยบ range.

To summarise it doesn't tick all the boxes but it ticks box number 1 (get rid of the lines) which is top of my list.

All for now ๐Ÿ’‹ BeautyBoo44

Face the Future

The joys of online shopping!
Face the future beautyboo44 purchases

Face the Future are one of my go to sites for skincare.  They have a truly HUGE product range, prices are competitive and customer service is fab.

You can of course order online but the customer care team on the phone are particularly helpful.  Recently I missed out on a 10% discount by just one day (iPad died before my order was complete). When I realised the next day, the 10% discount had expired ๐Ÿ˜• – a quick phone call to customer services got me my discount ๐Ÿ˜€

Delivery is always quick (free for UK over £15) and everything is wrapped with great care,  so no dented cartons (it shouldn't matter, but it does).  On top of this you often get a free sample or offer thrown carefully placed in for good measure.

Face the Future also have a Blog which I really like.  They of course write about the things they do and sell (all interesting stuff), but it also contains impartial articles and tips on skin, beauty, health etc.

What you may not already know is Face the Future aren't just a shop but a real clinic (based in Wakefield UK).  So yes, they sell products but also know about skin and the products they sell and can even give you online advice, which can include having a peer at you over Skype!

At the moment I am self diagnosing, and my main concerns are:
  • Volume Loss
  • Sagging skin
  • Dark circles/eye bags
Which lead me to have a little spend up and purchase...

H.A. Intensifier
HA Intensifier

The first item on my shopping list.  There has been a lot of hype about this new serum from SkinCeuticals The H.A. stands for hyaluronic acid.  Simply put, the serum is aimed to increase the hyaluronic acid in your skin which in turn keeps the moisture in your skin.  However it also contains something called Propylene and purple rice extracts which SkinCeuticals say support your existing hyaluronic acid. It was on offer but still cost approx £80, which is a hefty price for any product.  I don't think I have ever paid that much for a serum so I have high hopes.

You get 30ml in a glass bottle with a stopper – you suck up the serum with the pipette.  I like that the bottle feels sturdy.  The serum is a purple (red wine colour) and a thick texture which is good, I always apply serum first to the back of my hand and if it is too runny I worry it will run away before I have a chance to apply it.  You just need four drops - forehead, chin, cheeks and then massage it outwards and glide it up and across your neck, then follow with you moisturiser and SPF.

Results can't be expected overnight so expect a full review from me in about a month.

Mesoestetic collagen 360
Mesoestetic collagen 360 eye cream

The impulse buy of the bunch – that word Collagen I can’t help myself!  I had done zero research before I purchased the Collagen 360 eye cream which is very unlike me.  However the descriptions on Face the Future are always good and I read the reviews on the site which all sounded positive, plus it was on offer and I was feeling a bit reckless so thought - why not?  This eye cream is meant to, given time, stimulate the skins fibroblasts to get you to produce more collagen, which in turn smooths and plumps the skin.

It is far too early for me to write a full review as I have only been using it for a few days but, first impressions? – nice texture, not greasy, pump dispenser and you can tell it has a lot of light reflecting particles in it as the colour is a pinky/purple colour (on application only)

I am really getting into Collagen drinks, they seem like a good way of getting more of this into me.  I recently tried Skinade which was great and I noticed a difference.

BeautyColl offer a 28 day course for about £50.00.  These are not pre mixed drinks but a mixed berry flavoured powder that you need to mix with water, very portable, about a week into the course, they even went on holiday with me!!  Made from marine collagen ๐ŸŸ

Consume one a day and wait for results - review to follow.

Cellulite My New Weapons!!

Elancyl Cellu Night Intensive Slimming

You may have read my original post about my Cellulite routine? If not you can read it here.

I admit it, I am a little obsessed with a brand I discovered in the 1980's called Elancyl, which you can no longer buy in UK shops (to my knowledge).

Fast forward from the 80's to now and,  ta-dah! - the joys of online shopping and in particular online pharmacies.

I recently had a mini splurge at one of my favourites online shops,  Pharmeden and purchased two new Elancyl additions to my arsenal of weapons to treat my cellulite and help slay the bumpy stuff.

Cellu Slim Night

Elancyl Cellu Night Intensive Slimming
This is the opposite of the regular Cellu Slim which you apply in the morning.

Cellu Slim Night Intensive Slimming Care (to give it's full name), contains caffeine and ivy extract and is designed as the name implies to be used at night. ๐ŸŒ›

Why a special night time cream?

You know that we are told to not eat too late as the body stores fat during the night?  Well this cream is designed to combat that night time fat making time!๐Ÿ˜€

To use you need to massage Cellu Slim Night into your problems areas (me? - thighs, bottom and tummy) in accordance to the Elancyl Activ' Slimming Massage method (there is a picture on the inside of the box of the 4 steps to follow - in a nutshell it is upwards stokes then across and a bit of lithesome gentle skin pummelling thrown in).  In a big 250ml tub, you simply scoop out the amount you need and massage it in, it is easily absorb and a pleasure to use.  It smells divine, like all the Elancyl products it has a gorgeous spa like shower fresh smell that  I simply love, love, love.  I love going to bed cocooned in the fragrance which is still there in the morning.

I am already starting to feel the benefits, my skin is feeling a lot smoother and more hydrated.  Also as I really like using it,  this is going to be an easy routine to keep to and I feel good that I am treating some of the more neglected parts of me to a bit of extra TLC.

Eau D'Eclat

Elancyl Eau D'Eclat body mist
This is a body mist with Guarana extract which I thought might be the scent I love so much.  However, a quick bit of research led me to find that is actually a source of caffeine.

In a glass 150ml bottle I spritz this on after my shower.  To be honest the scent doesn't seem to last that long but I like using it, and it looks pretty in its green bottle.  Also the picture of the model is a bit inspirational!  (I would look that happy too if I were her!!).

I purchased both of my recent Elancyl products from  The parcel came from Greece I think because it had some Greek stamps on it - but get this - 2 days delivery to the UK,
how fast is that?!

Now where did I put my white pants and shirt!!
